Carrier oils come from a variety of plant life. They can be cold pressed, macerated, or heat expelled. Cold pressed is usually the better oil as they retain their healing qualities and essential vitamins and minerals.

Each oil has a different shelf life, heaviness, absorbtion rate, and slip. Always read the ingredient label before purchasing massage oils and check how they are produced. Some are "refined" with dangerous chemicals that are not healthy for you or your clients.

Repeated exposure such as massage therapists experience can build up to toxic levels. Holly oil is an example of a dangerous oil. It is non staining but uses dangerous chemicals to refine it into a non staining oil. Below is a list of quality pure oils and their benefits. They are organic where possible, we use ethical suppliers who are Fair Trade Compliant (no child or forced labour, environmentally friendly production, and profits go back to the community) and are completely chemical free and safe to use.

Apricot Kernel: cold pressed, light, emollient, easily absorbed. For sensitive, dry, irritated skin. High in Vitamin A and E. Excellent for babies.

Avocado: cold pressed, heavy, use at 10% in blends. High in Vitamins A, B's 1, 2, 5, D, E, minerals, protein, and fatty acids. Regenerative qualities, and healing.

Carrot: rich in beta-carotene, Vitamins A and E and Provitamin A. Heals dry, cracked, chapped skin. Use at 2-5%.

Coconut, Fractionated: non staining, non greasy, light.

Evening Primrose: High in EFA's, (GLA), helps defend against infection and inflammation. Recommended for eczema and psoriasis. Use at 5%.

Grapeseed: light, penetrating, rich in vitamins, minerals. Good for acne, oily skin, slightly drying.

Hazelnut: light, penetrating, excellent for acne prone skin. High in EFA's, soothing and healing. Hemp: anti-inflammatory, heals skin lesions but can be drying.

Jojoba: fast penetration, resembles skins own sebum, anti-inflammatory, excellent for arthritic and rheumatic patients. Indefinite shelf life.

Macadamia: anti-oxidant, suitable for all skin types. Protects skin, penetrates and hydrates quickly.

Neem: anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, antiseptic, anti-parasitic. Used to treat skin disorders of all kinds.

Peach Kernel: similar to apricot, light, penetrating, absorbs easily, non-greasy. Excellent substitute for sweet almond, grapeseed and sunflower.

Pomegranate: nourishing, moisturizing, and improves skins elasticity. High in lipids, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, reduces swelling, eases muscle aches and pain. Anti cancerous. Increasingly used in high end spa formulas.

Seabuckhorn: used in high end spa formulas. High in Vitamin C, B1, B2, K, and P. It is restorative, revitalizing, regenerative. Beneficial for acne, dermatitis, eczema, skin ulcers, postpartum pigmentation,burns, scales, cuts, and tissue regeneration, wound healing, combats wrinkles, and aging skin.

Soybean: light, an excellent alternative to sweet almond.

Sunflower: high essential fatty acids (EFA's), inexpensive, short shelf life so must be blended with an oil with long shelf life. High in Vitamin A, B, D, E, and lecithin.

Mineral oil, petroleum jelly, baby oil: The World Health Organization has published reports linking these with cancer. We do not sell nor do we promote the use of these oils.
